Product Insight

MEDBRAIN 500

Fisetin  flavonoid exhibits a wide variety of activities, including neurotrophic , anti-oxidant , anti-inflammatory , and anti-angiogenic  activities. Fisetin has shown efficacy against numerous cancer types including prostate cancer, liver cancer, colon cancer , and leukaemia. Fisetin has also been shown to possess anti-inflammatory activity. Fisetin has also shown potential against other chronic diseases. For example, in ovalbumin-induced asthma, fisetin attenuated lung inflammation and airway hyper-responsiveness and decreased eosinophils and lymphocytes in bronchoalveolar fluid. Fisetin reduced the expression of the key initiators of allergic airway inflammation (eotaxin-1 and TSLP), Th2-associated cytokines (IL-4, IL-5, and IL-13) in lungs, and Th2-predominant transcription factor GATA-3 and cytokines in thoracic lymph node cells and splenocytes. This flavonoid has shown cardioprotective properties.

Chemoprevention is an emerging, appealing, and an innovative strategy for the management of cancer. While fruits and vegetables are an abundant source of many cofactors, vitamins, minerals, the phytochemicals constituents known as flavonoids have special ability to target several key cellular events involved in the development of cancer.  Flavonoids are the most abundant polyphenols consumed in human diet and are classified into flavonols, flavones, isoflavones, anthocyanidins, theaflavins, and thearubigins. Several studies have demonstrated that flavonoids possess anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory, and chemopreventive properties. The compound tetrahydroxyflavone is a natural flavone commonly referred to fisetin.  Major fisetin containing food sources include strawberries, apples, persimmons, grapes, onions, and cucumbers  as shown in. Fisetin affects multiple molecular and signaling pathways depending on the cancer type . Among all the multiple biological effects fisetin possesses, its anticancer potential has been recently explored making it a promising agent for cancer prevention and therapy. This review summarizes the cellular effects of fisetin in an attempt to elucidate its preventive and therapeutic potential against various cancers.

Fisetin interacts with multiple cellular targets by binding to and interacting with several molecular targets fisetin regulates a wide variety of cell functions. Fisetin disrupts Wnt signaling and results in cell cycle arrest. It inhibits the YB-1 binding protein to suppress epithelial to mesenchymal transition and thus prevents invasion and migration of cancer cells. By physically interacting with the mTOR molecule, fisetin inhibits signaling involved in cell survival thus explaining its inhibitory effect on cellular growth and proliferation. Fisetin binds to and disrupts microtubule dynamics and acts as a stabilizing agent with effects far superior to paclitaxel. However across all cancers, mTOR and NF-kB appear to be the most commonly affected pathways.

QUALITY

FISETIN extract -50mg

Rhus succedanea extract (50% Fisetin) is  flavonoid found in many fruits and vegetables, including strawberries, apples, persimmon, grapes, onions, and cucumbers. As seen in the diagram below, strawberries contain much more fisetin than other fruits and vegetables. Aging expert and professor Paul D. Robbins and a team of scientists examined fisetin's effects on aging and longevity in rodents. They found that mice exposed to fisetin lived 10% longer and experienced fewer age-related issues than the control group, even at an older age. These promising results drove the Mayo Clinic to sponsor a clinical trial examining the direct effects of fisetin supplementation on age-related dysfunction in humans.Another prominent scientist Dr. Maher, Ph.D., also discovered impressive findings, especially fisetin's impact on the brain. Her research in mice illustrated fisetin’s neuroprotective and memory-enhancing properties. One particular study included mice with Huntington's Disease (HD), an inherited disease that damages and destroys neurons in the brain. Mice with HD that were fed fisetin experienced a delayed onset of motor defects and lived 30% longer. Fisetin's unique characteristics, including its ability to act as a senolytic, antioxidant, and mimic calorie restriction, potentially explain these findings.

Lion's Mane Mushroom extract -50mg

Neurotrophic factors are important in promoting the growth and differentiation of neurons. Nerve growth factor (NGF) is essential for the maintenance of the basal forebrain cholinergic system. Hericenones and erinacines isolated from the medicinal mushroom Hericium erinaceus can induce NGF synthesis in nerve cells. In this study, we evaluated the synergistic interaction between H. erinaceus aqueous extract and exogenous NGF on the neurite outgrowth stimulation of neuroblastoma-glioma cell NG108-15. The neuroprotective effect of the mushroom extract toward oxidative stress was also studied. Aqueous extract of H. erinaceus was shown to be non-cytotoxic to human lung fibroblast MRC-5 and NG108-15 cells. The combination of 10 ng/mL NGF with 1 μg/mL mushroom extract yielded the highest percentage increase of 60.6% neurite outgrowth. The extract contained neuroactive compounds that induced the secretion of extracellular NGF in NG108-15 cells, thereby promoting neurite outgrowth activity. However, the H. erinaceus extract failed to protect NG108-15 cells subjected to oxidative stress when applied in pre-treatment and co-treatment modes. In conclusion, the aqueous extract of H. erinaceus contained neuroactive compounds which induced NGF-synthesis and promoted neurite outgrowth in NG108-15 cells. The extract also enhanced the neurite outgrowth stimulation activity of NGF when applied in combination. The aqueous preparation of H. erinaceus had neurotrophic but not neuroprotective activities.

RESEARCH

Bacopa monnieri extract -100mg

Research suggests that Bacopa monnieri may help enhance brain function. For example, one study in mice showed that supplementing with Bacopa monnieri improved their spatial learning and ability to retain information The same study also found that it increased dendritic length and branching. Dendrites are parts of nerve cells in the brain that are closely linked to learning and memory Additionally, a 12-week study in 46 healthy adults observed that taking 300 mg of Bacopa monnieri daily significantly improved the speed of processing visual information, learning rate, and memory, compared with the placebo treatment  Another 12-week study in 60 older adults found that taking either 300 mg or 600 mg of Bacopa monnieri extract daily improved memory, attention, and the ability to process information, compared with the placebo treatment

Applying Shankhpushpi oil on the scalp and hair help control hair fall and also promotes hair growth due to its Rasayana (rejuvenating) property.

MORE INFORMATION

Centella asiatica extract -100mg

Delayed recall memory was significantly improved in patients treated with Centella asiatica compared to folic acid. In preclinical models of Alzheimer's disease, extracts of Centella asiatica decreased beta-amyloid levels and oxidative stress , prevented the shrinkage of neuronal processes , and protected against beta-amyloid-associated toxicity and behavioral abnormalities . In models of cognitive decline, Centella asiatica treatment significantly improved memory performance, decreased markers of cell death, increased antioxidant defense, and reversed mitochondrial deficits . There are many components to Centella asiatica, of which Asiatic acid has been the most studied in preclinical models. Asiatic acid does cross the blood-brain-barrier and produces antioxidant and neuroprotective effects .

ElderBerry extract -50mg,

Elderberries (Sambuci fructus) have been shown in a number of studies to have significant anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects. Multiple human and animal studies have supported the anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects of elderberry preparations and it has been used in natural medicine for hundreds of years. Studies examining factors that may decrease the risk of Alzheimer's disease have revealed that drinking juices with similar properties to elderberries is one of the most reliable way to decrease risk. As such the investigators wish to determine the effects of elderberry juice on cognitive decline in a group of subjects at high risk for Alzheimer's disease, those with mild cognitive impairment. Elderberry juice is a commercially available nutritional supplement and easily available to this population.

Ginkgo Biloba extract (50mg).

A review of 21 studies revealed that when used in conjunction with conventional medicine, ginkgo extract may increase functional capabilities in those with mild Alzheimer’s .Another review evaluated four studies and found a significant reduction in a spectrum of symptoms associated with dementia when ginkgo was used for 22–24 weeks These positive results could be related to the role that ginkgo may play in improving blood flow to the brain, especially as it relates to vascular types of dementia.
