Cannabis extract naturally contains neutral, non-active ingredients like waxes and lipids, which do not have much medicinal effect. Pharmacists at IBS spent good amount of efforts to produce the cleanest concentrate possible by removing these waxes, particularly for medicinal products destined to be inhaled & taken sublingually. We at IBS employ a dewaxing process called winterization which involves, a solvent, usually food grade ethanol, and subsequent cold filtering. Cannabis plant under the intense heat of the sun, secretes a wax. The wax will form a barrier around the cuticles of the plants leaves and buds. This happens naturally within the plant and is meant for the survival of the plant. As the sun shine attempts to draw moisture from the plant, cannabis leaves try to protect the plant’s nutrients. Cannabis creates the wax to keep hold of its water source as long as possible. The wax acts as a water dome.

Plant wax is a little sticky substance. If we include plant wax in a formula such as tinctures, patients wouldn’t be able to take the supplement properly. It tends to stick to the interiors of the Bottle. So bottling was never a good idea for providing medicine to patients who are children or are little older. Hence pharmacists at IBS used cannabis Extract and a carrier oil in particular ratio. Although it looks simple approach but we faced lots of issues finding correct carrier oil. We worked with Castor oil, Coconut oil, cannabis seed oil, but one solution did not fit all tinctures because of one reason or other, since India is a vast nation with different topography and climate. We eventually relied on MCT oil (Coconut oil derived only). MCT oil  Increases Bioavailability of the medicine in a patient’s body to much greater extent. It’s like taking an ayurvedic medicine along with honey, the effects are better. Pure MCT oil sourcing was another challenge, as lots of MCT oil is being imported into India, and this MCT oil is sourced from genetically modified Palm oil trees wherein whole purpose of making the effective medicine was lost. This issue led us to harvest our own MCT oil. Results were phenomenal. 

Our research associates, Pharmacists and Doctors are putting continuous efforts in new drug development, clinical trials and clinical validations to offer the medical ecosystem an alternative new treatment. As part of our Product quality control, every batch undergoes in house Lab testing, Government of India Laboratory Testing and a third party testing from European laboratory, while these tests have proved that our medicinal compound extracts are of high grade and comparable to international standards.
